Housed in the picturesque UC Santa Barbara campus, the REAL AI Initiative is led by three fearless AI researchers focused on four REAL aspects of AI technology:

• RELIABLE: We strive to build AI technologies that can consistently perform as expected, minimizing errors and unexpected behaviors. Our research in this area focuses on enhancing the robustness of AI algorithms and systems, making them reliable in a wide range of environments.

• ETHICAL: At the REAL AI Initiative, we are dedicated to the development of ethical AI systems. We work to mitigate bias, ensure privacy, and uphold accountability in AI technologies.

• ACCESSIBLE: The REAL AI Initiative is driven by a mission to make AI accessible to all. Our efforts include democratizing AI through education and outreach, as well as creating user-friendly AI tools.

• LONG-SHOT: We take on ambitious, long-shot projects that expand the frontiers of AI. We achieve this through fundamental research and by connecting cutting-edge AI technologies to real-world applications, such as quantum computing, healthcare applications and brain-computer interfaces, fostering innovations in the field.
